Hi, I'm Jo! Welcome to my page.
Click here to read more about me.
I’m a theoretical physicist born and raised in Singapore with a diverse range of interests. I hold a MSc in Mathematical and Theoretical Physics from the University of Oxford, and will be heading to Tsinghua University later this year to do a MA in Global Affairs as a Schwarzman Scholar.
I’ve taught physics for the past six years, helping students build intuition and confidence with complex ideas. I am a firm believer that you have to study smart, not hard: understand the concepts, then learn how to apply them. That’s why I am publishing open-source notes designed to be clear, structured, and exam-useful — you can find them in the Teaching tab.
I also apply my quantitative background and teaching instincts for my other passion project: data advocacy. I conduct data-driven analyses of issues affecting everyday Singaporeans, and explain them through articles and short-form videos that anyone can understand. You can find that work in the Data Advocacy tab or on my publication Data Rakyat.
Now, for my academic interests. In physics, my research interests are ultracold atoms and quantum information. In global affairs, I study how social media has influenced the dynamics of political participation and resistance.
In my (very limited) free time, I enjoy cooking elaborate meals, reading all sorts of books, and scuba diving in anywhere that is warmer than 25 celsius.
If you’ve found my notes helpful, I also teach physics and math one-on-one and am currently accepting new (remote) students. I’m also always happy to chat about policy, media and physics. Feel free to send me a message through the ‘chat’ icon on the top right corner, or email me directly at [joleenteo.sg@gmail.com].
